My Kitchen Rules’ future uncertain amid cancellation rumours as Colin Fassnidge shares his thoughts on the potential of another season

Rumours have been rife that My Kitchen Rules is set to be axed after it’s 11th season failed to gain traction in the ratings.

Now, judge Colin Fassnidge has opened up about whether the Channel Seven cooking show will return for another season.

On Thursday, the 47-year-old explained to the Herald Sun that the future of the series is uncertain, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the chopping block: On Thursday, Colin Fassnidge explained to the Herald Sun that the future of MKR is uncertain, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic

‘I think it is all up in the air no one knows what is happening. TV is a little bit like Melbourne at the moment, they are in a world of pain,’ he said.

‘I never banked on TV. That is why we always had our restaurants going and other stuff like catering.

‘I am 47, I know exactly what TV is. I don’t trust anyone in TV. If I was 27 I would have believed everything they say.’

Back in January a network insider told Woman’s Day that after MKR’s poor performance in the ratings, Seven executives are ‘pushing’ to cancel it.

A source told the magazine: ‘MKR is no longer safe. There are people in power pushing to end the show for good.’

Judge Manu Feildel will apparently be offered other roles within the network because he is ‘worshipped over there’.

Adding more fuel to the cancellation rumours, Pete Evans departed the network after 10 years.

The celebrity chef, 47, recently came to a ‘mutual’ and ‘amicable’ decision to leave the network, Seven confirmed.

According to respected industry website TV Blackbox, Evans is understood to be happy with his newfound independence and reportedly plans to expand his ‘alternative lifestyle empire’ by marketing books, documentaries and other merchandise.
