Mother watches in horror as car kills her six-year-old son while he rode his bike outside family home

A six-year-old boy who died after his bike was hit by a car dreamed of being a policeman when he grew up, his family said.
Kidus Wondwosen died a short time after the collision in Wilmott Street in the Hulme area of Manchester on Sunday.
His mother Zufan Yemane and aunt had been watching him play when the crash happened, according to The Sun.
In a tribute issued through Greater Manchester Police, his family said: ‘Kidus was a happy, friendly boy who was always smiling.

‘He was very smart and his mum was proud that he was the smartest boy in his class at school.
‘He loved his family, especially his mum, auntie and brother.
‘He had lots of friends and loved to be out playing games with them. He also loved to play football and to go swimming.
‘He liked Manchester United and his favourite player was Marcus Rashford.

‘This lively, bubbly young boy had his whole life to look forward to and dreamed of being a policeman when he grew up.
‘His whole family are devastated by his death and are struggling to comprehend that they will never see him again.’
Police were called to the scene after reports of a collision at the junction of Wilmott Street and Chevril Close in Hulme, in Manchester, around 6pm.
A 32-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and later released under investigation.

Sergeant Joseph Barron, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: ‘This was a devastating collision. Our thoughts are with the boys loved ones at what is understandably a heart breaking time for them.
‘Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision and, although a woman is in custody, we are keen to hear from anyone with information.
‘I would also appeal to anyone with dash cam footage from the area shortly before or at the time of the incident to contact us.’
