The return of rugby league has been rocked after five Hull players – who played in a Super League fixture on Sunday – tested positive for Covid-19.
In a statement released late on Tuesday night, the Rugby Football League (RFL) added that two of the club’s coaching staff had also returned a positive result, along with a sixth player who was not in the squad for a 54-18 thrashing by Salford Red Devils at Leeds’s Headingley home.
Those who tested positive will now quarantine for 10 days. Public Health England and Salford were informed of the situation on Tuesday night too.

The development will now pose questions over the rest of the season for the sport, which returned earlier this month.
An RFL spokesperson said: ‘Announcements on the impact on forthcoming Betfred Super League and Coral Challenge Cup fixtures over the next two weekends will be made as soon as possible.’
They added: ‘Salford’s routine weekly test results have not yet been received, but the RFL is now analysing Sunday’s match to determine how many players from each team will also be required to self-isolate under the test and trace procedures that have been agreed with Public Health England.’
