‘Being the lead of a superhero show is tough’: Ruby Rose revealed to Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday, the REAL reason she left The CW’s Batwoman

‘Being the lead of a superhero show is tough. Being the lead in anything is tough,’ Ruby told the publication with a laugh.

She said she was still recovering from having surgery and struggled to work, calling the experience ‘taxing.’

Ruby said it was ‘time for her to take a break to fully heal and then return,’ but added that COVID-19 also played a part in her leaving.

She said they didn’t get to film the ‘real finale’ of the show due to the pandemic, and then it have her time to think about her role and career.

‘You know, you have time in quarantine and sort of isolation to just think about a lot of different things and what you want to achieve in life and what you want to do,’ Ruby said.

She added that she and the producers had a ‘dialogue’ about things and there was a lot of ‘respect’ there between them when she decided to leave.

She added: ‘I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also.’

At the time, TV Line reported that Ruby’s departure from the series wasn’t all her decision, though there was an amicable parting of ways.

‘It wasn’t 100 percent her decision. It was a breakup,’ an insider said.

‘She wasn’t happy working on the show, and did that make her fun to work with? No. So everyone decided it would be in the best interests of the show, and for all concerned, if they parted ways. It just wasn’t a good fit.’

A key factor in her decision to leave was the long hours she had to work as the star of Batwoman.

Prior to the series, Rose had mostly played smaller supporting roles in films and television requiring more modest time commitments.

She also wasn’t a fan of living in Vancouver, where the series is filmed.
