The actress revealed in a recent interview with E! News that she and the creative team behind the new Lizzie McGuire series have been having regular conversations about how to move forward with Disney+ after the streamer halted production and fired the showrunner over concerns that the new show was too adult-oriented.

‘We are very much still in conversation with them a couple of times a week, which is really nice,’ she said.

‘We started shooting, and then obviously that got on hold for a couple of different reasons not involving the pandemic,’ the actress continued. ‘But you know what, I have high hopes that we are going to make it work.’

Hilary said she wanted to do justice to the character she’s most identified with.

‘It’s like a responsibility to [Lizzie], honoring her and the fanbase that grew up with her,’ she said. ‘We kind of put her on pause, and had to go back to the drawing board, but I feel optimistic that it will happen.’

Though there hasn’t been any word from Disney+ on whether it plans to move forward with the series after two episodes were filmed, the show is still being developed.

‘A lot of writing is happening,’ Hilary continued. ‘We are being told to have patience, which is good, so I feel optimistic.’
