Reality star Tamar Braxton has confirmed reports that she attempted to take her own life, in an emotional statement posted to Instagram on Thursday alongside a picture of herself with her 7-year-old son Logan Vincent Herbert. 

‘It was only God’s grace and his mercy on my attempt to end my pain and my life that I am here to utilize my voice,’ Tamar wrote, as she thanked fans and family for their prayers and support through this difficult time for the star. 

The 43-year-old, was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after being found unresponsive following a suspected overdose on July 17, but has since been in a stable condition as she continues her recovery.

It was reported on Wednesday that WE tv had decided to postpone the premiere of Tamar’s new reality show Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life! following her suicide attempt.

In a statement, the network said it was ‘sending strength and healing in the hope that she is getting the support and help she needs at this difficult time.’ 

Tamar said in her Instagram post that ‘mental illness is real’ hinting that her mental health has deteriorated over the past 11 years in her career, as a result ‘from the toxic, systematic bondage that dwells television.’ 

Sister of singer Toni Braxton, Tamar found fame in the recording group The Braxtons in the 1990s, but later found a different type of success with the WE tv reality series Braxton Family Values from 2011. She has also served as a co-host on talk-show The Real from 2013 until 2016, when she was fired for alleged bad behavior on set.
