Line of Duty’s Vicky McClure and Martin Compston REUNITE with former co-stars

Line Of Duty’s Vicky McClure and Martin Compston enjoyed a virtual reunion with their former co-stars Lennie James and Craig Parkinson on Thursday.

The actress, 37, looked delighted in a screenshot of her zoom call with the actor, 36,  Save Me star, 54, and the 44-year-old actor, as well as show creator Jed Mercurio and producer Simon Heath, which she shared via Instagram.

Craig played DI Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan in the BBC drama from series one to three, while Lennie took on the role of DCI Tony Gates, both of whom were revealed to be bent coppers in the series.

Gushing about getting to reunite even in lockdown, Vicky wrote in the caption: ‘Another day, another LOD Zoom…sadly no Adrian [Dunbar], he’s on a Zoom training course!

‘So good to reminisce with @thereallenniejames & @parkinson.craig on @bbclineofduty series one, which starts again on Monday & Tuesday nights, starting 3rd August 9pm.’

Vicky’s amusing reference to Adrian came after he joined a chat with her, Jed and Martin via her phone amid a struggle with technology during a Zoom call on Wednesday evening.

In a screen shot uploaded onto the image-sharing platform, Martin and Line Of Duty screenwriter Jed were seen grinning broadly, while Vicky (DI Kate Fleming) holds up her phone screen showing Adrian (Superintendent Ted Hastings).

Captioning the hilarious snap, Martin wrote: ‘Lovely debrief with the @bbclineofduty team, the gaffers grasp of technology gets better every time. One day he will actually figure out how to join a group call.’

Craig’s character Dot was a member of AC-12, he was revealed to be part of a network of corrupt police officers – headed up by the mysterious ‘H’ – acting as a mole in the department and known as ‘The Caddy’.

Dot was killed off in series three of Line Of Duty after he was shot by a member of the Organised Crime Unit.

Lennie, meanwhile, starred as the head of the serious crime unit TO-20 in series one.

Renowned for returning the best crime figures of any unit in Central Police, Gates faced an internal affairs investigation led by the unscrupulous commanding officer of AC-12, Ted Hastings.

In the dramatic series finale, Gates threw himself under a moving lorry after the sordid details of his tangled home life caught up with him.

It was revealed in May last year that Jed planned to bring Tony ‘back from the dead’, as the show mastermind had initially incorporated the bent DCI back into the series five script, before deciding to pull the scenes.

Responding to fan theories claiming that Gates could appear in series six at the TV BAFTAs, Lennie said anything is possible, despite the police officer coming to a grisly end in the series one finale.

He said: ‘Every single time I see Jed he talks about how he’s just written the scene that’s brought me back to Line of Duty.

‘Then the next time I see it, he said “yeah it was rubbish, so I got rid of it.”

The police drama – which follows an anti-corruption unit in the police force – premiered on BBC Two in 2012, before bosses cottoned on to the fact it deserved prime-time positioning on BBC One.

Season six of the BBC drama was four weeks into filming when it was grounded to a halt mid-production due to COVID-19, with Jed hoping it could be completed ‘by the end of the calendar year’
