First look: Pixar’s next movie is Luca about a boy who befriends a mysterious stranger while taking in the Italian Riviera
Pixar Animation Studios – a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios – announced on Thursday what their next movie would be.
The Northern California based studio is working on an animated film called Luca about a young boy who spends his summer on the Italian riviera eating gelato and swimming.
The plot revolves around his friendship with another boy who is not who he seems to be as he hides his origin.

It has been described as ‘a coming-of-age story’ about one young boy.
Luca takes in all that Italy has to offer, including fun scooter rides around the curvy roads.
A first photo from the film was shared on Thursday showing two boys jumping off a cliff and into the Mediterranean as a village can be seen in the background.
His new friend has a secret thought: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.
The movie will be directed by Oscar nominee Enrico Casarosa (La Luna) and produced by Andrea Warren (Lava, Cars 3).

‘This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship,’ said the film’s director Enrico Casarosa.
‘Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca.
‘So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.’
The movie will hit theaters on June 18, 2021.
