Zack Snyder says Joss Whedon was not his choice to take over Justice League

When director Zack Snyder had to step away from Justice League due to a family tragedy, Joss Whedon was brought in to replace him, but Snyder is making it clear that was not his call.

The critically-panned Justice League underperformed at the box office and more recently star Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg, spoke out against Whedon’s behavior on the set.

Now that the long-awaited ‘Snyder Cut’ of Justice League is arriving on HBO Max next year, Snyder himself spoke about Whedon’s work during a virtual panel for JusticeCon, where he insisted there’s ‘no chance’ Whedon’s work will be featured.

One of the JusticeCon moderators was speaking about how ‘misinformed’ some fans are between the 2017 movie that hit theaters, comprised of both footage Snyder and Whedon filmed, and the Snyder Cut.

Snyder said, ‘there is no chance on Earth that I will use a shot that was made after I left the movie.’

‘I would destroy the movie, I would set it on fire, before I would use a single frame that I did not photograph,’ Snyder reiterated, throwing down the gauntlet, as it were.

He added that he has still never seen the theatrical cut of Justice League, which earned middling reviews from critics (40% on Rotten Tomatoes) and the lowest global box office haul ($657.9 million) from the DCEU to date.

The director also called the theatrical version of Justice League ‘Frankenstein’s monster’ since it used parts of his film and parts from Whedon’s reshoots.

He also added that, while he made the decision to leave the film, it was not his decision to hire Whedon, adding that decision was made, ‘by committee.’

Earlier this month, Ray Fisher made headlines when he called out Whedon for his ‘on-set treatment of the cast and crew,’ calling it ‘gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable.’

Whedon himself has yet to respond to Fisher’s allegations, but Fisher himself appeared in a Saturday panel at JusticeCon, where he said he’s spent the past two and a half years trying to get people to speak out against his behavior on set.

‘We’re gonna get to the heart of everything. And if anything I said about that man is untrue, I invite him wholeheartedly to sue me for libel, to sue me for slander,’ Fisher said of Whedon.
