Paris has been following in her famous father Michael Jackson’s footsteps by pursuing a career in music.

Last month, Paris and her band The Soundflowers released their EP, which included the tracks You Look (Glorious) and Geronimo.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Paris recalled being encouraged to follow her dreams by her late father.

‘No matter what it was we were interested in, I remember at one point I wanted to be an astronaut, he was like “do it. do it. Educate yourself as much as possible then go with it” with every aspect of life,’ Paris said.

Paris said that she originally started writing music ‘to get things out’.

‘It feels good to get it out. It feels like not butterflies in your stomach but in your heart. It’s cool,’ she said.

Paris has been open about her past mental health challenges, and the singer reflected on channeling her pain into her song Geronimo, which she wrote at age 15.

‘Kids can be mean, your body’s going through changes, your emotions are everywhere. Just all the place. A lot of kids that age also suffer from depression and hardcore mental illnesses.’

She said part of what triggered her mental health issues was just life as a teenage girl.

‘Part of it was a good portion of it was just being that age and going through the trials and tribulation of a 15 year old girl, also just drama.

‘Drama is the seed to any kind of unhealthy coping skill that you choose.

‘I do wear my heart on my sleeve or so I’ve been told. People can usually tell when something’s wrong,’ she said.
