Marty has been with Nova for 10 years and longtime listeners will no doubt be devastated to see the radio veteran go.

On Friday, he announced that his last appearance on the show will be September 11.

‘Over the last three or four months I’ve been tossing up what I’d like to do in 2021 and I guess what I’ve decided to do is leave the show, which will come as a surprise to a lot of people,’ he said.

‘I’ve been thinking about it for a while – I’ve talked to numerous people and decided that now is the time to stretch the legs, as it were.’

In the emotional segment, Marty admitted that he wasn’t as ‘committed’ to the show as the others working on it and he didn’t want to ‘overstay’ his welcome.

‘Sometimes you’ve got to know in your gut when it’s time to go. You don’t want to overstay your welcome and you want to do the right thing by everyone else and be as committed to the show and the group as the people around you are,’ he said.

‘I think it’s fair to say that I am probably not that way at the moment.’
