An Australian mum has shared how she transformed an old second hand chest of drawers from Facebook Marketplace into a stunning piece of furniture.

Christy, from New South Wales, said she used to paint furniture for a living but hadn’t done so in three years due to chronic back pain.

But after having a cortisone injection she decided to revive her passion and shared before and after images to the Hacks and Product Reviews Australia Facebook group where she was met with gushing comments.

How did Christy complete the transformation? 

Christy found the chest of drawers second hand on Facebook Marketplace and painted and sanded back the drawers.

‘I’m so happy to be back to wanting to decorate my house – it used to be such a passion and I just lost it all,’ she said online.

To lighten the dark wood, Christy sanded the multiple drawers and painted the top and sides black.

She used the rust-oleum chalk paint purchased from Bunnings Warehouse. 

The online Facebook post received more than 1,200 likes and hundreds of social media users were impressed with the home project.

‘Beautiful space. I hope you get to continue to do this, you’ve done a gorgeous job of the drawers!!’ one person said.

‘Omg I love this, I’d pay you to paint me one like this,’ another said.

A third added: ‘Great that you found the passion to paint again.’

To match the new look, Christy purchased multiple woven products from Kmart, Bunnings and IKEA.

The wall art was bought from IKEA, the round mirror, plant basket and woven lamp was purchased from Kmart and another plant basket was bought from Bunnings.

Christy hopes she can continue her passion without impacting her back further.
