Kacey Musgraves cries sparkles in her first Instagram since break-up with husband Ruston Kelly: ‘If only tears were actually glittery’

Kacey Musgraves is subtly addressing her heartbreak in her first Instagram post since splitting from husband Ruston Kelly earlier this month.

The country-pop darling returned to social media with a dreamy but emotional post which had the star edited to appear like she was crying diamonds.

‘If only tears were actually glittery,’ the High Horse singer, 31, captioned the dazzling image, which was created by artist Sara Shakeel.

Emotions: Kacey Musgraves subtly addressed her heartbreak in her first Instagram post since her split from husband Ruston Kelly was announced earlier this month

The photo was edited to make Kacey appear like she was wearing a glittering bra while sparkling tears streamed down her face.

On her back was a pair of wings, likely a nod to Musgrave’s song Butterflies.

It seemed like Kacey was still on good terms with her ex, who took to the comment section to post a flexed arm emoji with an orange heart.

She did not respond, however.

‘Such an exquisite song. Probably my favorite,’ she commented on a post promoting the single.

Kacey and Ruston announced their split earlier this month, calling the breakup a ‘painful decision.’

‘With heavy but hopeful hearts we wanted to put our own thoughts into the air about what’s happening. These kinds of announcements are always met with scrutiny and speculation and we want to stop that before it even starts,’ the couple’s statement went on.

‘We believe that we were put into each other’s lives for a divine reason and have both changed each other infinitely for the better. The love we have for each other goes far beyond the relationship we’ve shared as husband and wife. It’s a soul connection that can never be erased.’

‘We’ve made this painful decision together — a healthy decision that comes after a very long period of trying the best we can. It simply just didn’t work. Though we are parting ways in marriage, we will remain true friends for the rest of our lives.’

The couple concluded: ‘We hold no blame, anger, or contempt for each other and we ask for privacy and positive wishes for us both as we learn how to navigate through this.’

Kacey and Ruston first met in 2016 at the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, where they were both attending a songwriters’ showcase. They got hitched just a year later.
