Chris Sebastian admits The Voice has a ‘track record’ of producing singers who fade into obscurity

The Voice winner Chris Sebastian admits the show has a ‘track record’ of producing singers who fade into obscurity as he vows to ‘keep a level head’ and ‘release a lot of music’

Chris Sebastian has admitted The Voice doesn’t have a tendency to produce big stars within the music industry.

In a candid interview with TV Tonight on Monday, the 31-year-old newly crowned Voice winner acknowledged the singing show’s ‘track record’.

‘I’d be lying if I said I didn’t know that was a track record,’ he said, before adding that success was ultimately up to the individual artist.

‘But honestly, I don’t think that’s reflective of the show. I think that’s an individual [thing]. Idol had people that didn’t go on to do really well after that, too,’ he added.

While Chris said he didn’t know exactly why some people succeed while others didn’t, he said he could only focus on the things he could control.

‘I think it’s a combination of individual and probably societal factors,’ he explained.

‘The only thing that I can control is what I do post show: release a lot of music, put on a good show and just keep a level head. That’s all I can really be in control of.’

Chris said he watched the show’s finale with his family at his brother, Voice coach Guy Sebastian’s house.

Surprisingly, he confessed he had no idea he’d won until he saw it on TV, with the show filming alternate endings ahead of the finale.

Chris said he was ‘absolutely shocked’ when he discovered he’d won, calling the finale ‘mind blowing’.

He also addressed fan accusations the show is ‘rigged’, given his big brother features as a coach.

‘I’ve heard the rumour that it’s rigged. I don’t want to spend my day trying to debunk theories. Obviously, it’s not… I’m incredibly happy,’ he said.
