The Voice fans revolt against ‘rigged’ finale as Guy Sebastian’s brother Chris wins

The Voice Australia’s judge Guy Sebastian celebrated his younger brother Chris, 31, winning the competition series on Sunday night.

But many viewers were far from happy and took to Twitter to label the final outcome as ‘rigged’ and ‘unfair’, claiming the other finalists were ‘robbed’.

‘The Voice AU has just lost its credibility,’ one fan Tweeted, as others questioned why Chris was allowed to audition in the first place.

Despite his connection to one of the main couches, the shock result saw the younger Sebastian take home $100,000 and a recording contract with EMI Music.

‘He broke the rules by even participating. He has an immediate family member working for the company. Why was this allowed? It says in the terms and conditions not to apply if you have family working for the company. #RIGGED,’ one angered fan wrote, while sharing a picture of the application form.

‘Family members and friends of the judges should NOT be allowed to compete,’ another upset viewer agreed.

‘Why do people even watch The Voice? It’s a total waste of f***ing time, just cancel the show. Everyone who has won that show hasn’t done s**t. They win and then just disappear and we never see them again,’ one fan said.

One fan Tweeted sarcastically: ‘A relative of one of #TheVoiceAU judges won this year… what a surprising and totally not rigged coincidence!’

Another said: ‘[Chris] being Guy’s brother was a huge advantage, which we know helped him get further. Johnny and Siala are fresh new talent. They were robbed.’

Others suggested the support of the Hillsong megachurch community helped Sebastian secure the majority of public votes.

‘The least of the performers tonight but he, shock, won. It’s crook and #rigged & Hillsonged,’ one Tweet read.

Chris’ The Voice rival Matt Gresham also Tweeted the result with a partial section of Proverbs 12:19, writing: ‘Truthful lips endure forever.’

Tellingly, the full verse continues with ‘but a lying tongue lasts only a moment’.

One fan agreed: ‘Just shows how rigged it is and you have the right to tell it like it is Matt.’

‘Guy had nothing to do with Chris’ entire journey. You’re just salty,’ another hit back, clarifying that it had been a public vote that secured Chris’ win.

Others on Twitter also stood up for Chris, and claimed he was deserving of the win and neither Sebastian brother should be shamed for the public’s decision.

Another fan wrote on Matt’s page: ‘Part 3 of the Ts&Cs says that you cannot have a relative that is working on or part of the show. Chris Sebastian should be disqualified….2020 is all kinds of wrong and strange.’

However, on Twitter, one user pointed out a section in the Ts&Cs: ‘“At the sole discretion of the Producer” is the language you need to focus on in the T&Cs… that give the power to them, and it was ultimately their choice.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Nine to clarify the show’s application Ts&Cs.
