Izzy Judd reunites with disabled brother Rupert for the first time in five months after lockdown and admits she feels ‘immense guilt for having freedom to live without brain injury’

She has been separated from her disabled brother Rupert for five months after the coronavorus lockdown. 

And Izzy Judd, 36, shared heartwarming pictures of herself being reunited with him after such a long time apart as she was finally able to visit his residential care home.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, she wrote: ‘Today I saw and hugged Rupert for the first time in 5 months. It was overwhelmingly emotional and somewhat surreal.

‘His amazing care home along with his carer Andrew organised a safe celebration of words and music so as a family we could present the home our fundraising cheque which many of you kindly contributed to following Rupert and Andrews lockdown music videos.

‘Throughout the last months my thoughts turn to Rupert often and as ever help me to gain a perspective of what matters most… our health, our happiness, freedom, to love and be loved.’

Izzy, who is married to McFly drummer Harry, concluded: ‘I felt so sad on my drive home and immense guilt for the freedom I have to live my life without brain injury, surrounded everyday by my family, friends and loved ones.

Izzy said: 'I also felt so proud of Rupert and everything he has overcome, especially during these very difficult months without a loved one to hold him tight'

Izzy also shared a lovely clip of him watching their other brother Guy playing the cello.

She wrote: ‘Guy and Rupert. What I love most about this video is how captivated Rupert is watching Guy (my other brother).

‘His brain injury means it is near impossible for Rupert to sit still, but music does something in a way words never will.’
