Big Brother’s Kieran Davidson reveals why he chose to take $15,000 from the winner’s prize fund and leave the show

He left Big Brother with $15,344 after a shock stand-off with fellow evictee Sophie Budack in the White Room on Wednesday.

And on Thursday, Kieran Davidson revealed why he decided to take the money and leave the show.

Speaking on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa, the YouTuber, 21, said: ‘When I was offered that money I wasn’t sure if I was going to take it but then Sonia said it comes off the grand total prize money.’

‘So I thought I’m going to stick it up to everyone who thought I wasn’t a threat in the game. Take the cash and run,’ he added.

Kieran went on to say the money is incredible as the other contestants left the show without taking home anything.

He said: ‘$15,000 is incredible, especially because some other people have left and will get absolutely nothing.’

On Wednesday, Kieran proved exactly why he’s known as this season’s ‘mastermind’ by stealing thousands from the winner’s prize fund.

Host Sonia Kruger tempted Kieran and Sophie with a rising money counter, and said whoever pressed the buzzer could leave the competition with that amount.

‘I just won $15,000 of the grand prize total and I couldn’t be happier!’ he said after pressing the red button just before the timer ran out.

‘You thought you could get rid of me at the first eviction, and you failed! Then you failed another six times, and now I’m leaving on my own terms… and I’ve just stolen $15,000,’ he laughed while leaving the compound.

‘My message for the housemates is don’t underestimate the underdog,’ Kieran said.

The remaining housemates, Sophie Budack, Chad Hurst, Sarah McDougal, Daniel Gorringe and Mat Garrick are now competing for a reduced prize of $234,656.

Big Brother continues Monday at 7:30pm on Channel Seven
