Carrie Bickmore broke down in tears during an interview with the neurosurgeon who operated on her late husband, Greg Lange.

The 39-year-old TV presenter was speaking with Professor Andrew Kaye during Tuesday’s episode of The Project when she was overcome by emotion.

‘Ten years ago, one of the brains operated on by the professor was my late husband, Greg. But back then, we used to call him Prof,’ she said.

Carrie then read aloud a letter she had found written by Greg talking about the since-retired surgeon.

‘”I don’t know if it was the plastic brain on the table, the well lit and tidy room, or the banter on AFL, but I knew right then and there that this was the guy for me…”‘ she read, before stopping and breaking down in tears.

With her voice cracking, Carrie took a moment to compose herself, before asking Prof if he remembered her late husband.

‘I remember him vividly. I remember his extraordinary courage. I never cease to be amazed by the courage of the people that I treat,’ he told her.

Talking to Anh Do on his ABC series Anh’s Brush With Fame in 2018, Carrie revealed Greg’s devastating diagnosis shattered her world.

‘In your twenties that is just the last thing that you can ever… I didn’t even really know anyone that had cancer, I didn’t know anything about brain cancer, neither did he,’ she said tearfully.

‘It completely threw everything we knew, everything we had planned, everything we thought… it just threw everything on its head.’

'It completely threw everything we knew, everything we had planned, everything we thought... it just threw everything on its head,' she previously said of Greg's cancer diagnosis
