Myles Stephenson reveals he is subjected to vile racist abuse by trolls

‘I could go on my Instagram now and still see racist comments’: Myles Stephenson reveals he is subjected to vile abuse by trolls as he releases Black Lives Matter single with Rak-Su

Myles Stephenson has revealed he is still subjected to racist abuse from cruel trolls on social media.

The singer, 28, appeared on Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain and told how he experienced discrimination while growing up as the son of a Jamaican father and a white British mother.

He said: ‘Growing up, my dad’s from Jamaica. Growing up mixed race, I’ve experienced it my whole life. I could go on my Instagram DMs now and still see racist comments. It hurts just as much as the first time.

‘But all I can do is, I’m in the position where I can’t react to it as I would have back in the day. I’ve just got to educate people on racism and if people don’t understand how it feels, how to make them understand how it feels.’

Myles, who was reunited with his old I’m A Celebrity campmate Kate Garraway during the chat, told how he has a new single with Rak-Su inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement.

He said: ‘We had the protests for Black Lives Matter. We’ve put out a new single called Who Am I? (Black Lives Matter).

‘We can continue to talk about what’s going on in the world with systemic racism and oppression. For us, the main priority is for people to keep talking about it.’

Myles took part in this year’s series of Celebrity MasterChef but failed to impress judges Greg Wallace and John Torrode with his cooking skills.

Reminiscing on being in the jungle with Kate, Myles insisted cooking in there meant more to him than his performance on MasterChef.

He said: ‘I actually found it more daunting cooking in the jungle because food means so much more to people there.

‘It was fuel. Everybody wasn’t thinking about the flavour so much. It gets to the point where you don’t care about the taste.

‘Greg and John said “cook for yourselves, cook how you’d cook at home in your kitchen”, so I did that and they kicked me out.

Myles congratulated Kate on returning to work after being at home while her husband Derek Draper continues to battle coronavirus.

Kate told how her jungle pal had been a big support for her during the difficult time, saying: ‘Thank you very much, it’s lovely. Lots of people have been helping me out and Myles has been one of them.’

Myles was in a ski accident in Andorra in February that saw him stay in intensive care but he assured fans he is on the mend.

He said: ‘I’m doing good now. I went on a 5km run with my friend the other day and I did it in about 28 minutes. I’m getting there. I can do 14 press ups now.’
