MasterChef star Laura Sharrad emotionally breaks down over negativity

‘I can’t have negativity’: MasterChef star Laura Sharrad emotionally breaks down in tears as she says she will ‘crumble’ under the pressure

MasterChef star Laura Sharrad had a mini-meltdown while speaking about negativity in the competition on Sunday night.

The 25-year-old couldn’t contain her emotions as she prepared her lamb rack for six guest chef judges while speaking to Jock Zonfrillo.

‘I can’t have negativity. Otherwise I’ll crumble,’ admitting she was nervous at this stage of the competition.

‘I can’t handle negativity’: MasterChef star Laura Sharrad, 25, emotionally broke down in tears as she says she will ‘crumble’ due to the pressure of the competition on Sunday night

She went on to explain while she looks calm on the outside, she was actually really struggling with the pressure of the competition.

‘On the outside, I look really calm. But I am, like, inside, so scared. Like, the thought of going home on something..like, a dish like this,’ she said.

She continued ‘That is so simple in its nature, I think would defeat me and I won’t have my goal to, you know, do one better, and to make the finale and to win.’

Laura then spoke of the pressure: ‘I’m cooking for my spot in this competition. Um, I know how to cook. Like, this is what I do every day.’

She added:’I just need to do it well. People say that winning isn’t all, but…I don’t know, I just have so much to prove.’

Despite her nerves, Laura managed to pull off the ‘childhood dish’, with her serving peas, mint and lamb.

Explaining the dish to the judges, Laura appeared relieved with her plate: ‘I just kept it really simple. For me, it’s like a bit of a take on a Sunday roast,’ she said.

Judge Melissa Leong was the first to praise the classic combination.

‘I think that she has really achieved what she set out to do…which is to take a simple idea and make it sophisticated,’ she said.

‘I mean, the lamb was perfectly pink, well rested. And then, you know, the peas had a lovely bit of freshness and bite about them.’

Jock thought it would have been better with the lamb on the bone.

‘The lamb – I would have preferred it on the bone. You know? I love lamb rack and I love chewing on the bone. It would be the only negative comment for me,’ he said.

‘Other than that, it was absolutely perfect.’

Even guest judge Matt Stone was impressed with the dish.

‘Together with the herbs, like, the crunchy, sour, salty herbs, just give this kind of vibrancy and cut that deep lamb richness, uh, really well,’ he said.

He continued: ‘It was beautiful. I would definitely eat it again and I think there were some great techniques there.’ Laura later entered the finals.

MasterChef: Back To Win continues on Channel Ten on Monday, 7.30pm.
