Rebecca Maddern hits back at people in Sydney ‘pretending COVID is over’

Rebecca Maddern hits back at people in Sydney ‘pretending COVID is over’ – and says ‘it’s only a matter of time’ before the number of cases increase

Channel Nine star Rebecca Maddern has hit back at Australians who are ‘pretending’ the coronavirus pandemic is over.

The Australian Ninja Warrior host, 42, said that people in Sydney aren’t social distancing and ‘it’s only a matter of time’ before there’s a spike in cases similar to what happened in Melbourne.

‘Not to be a killjoy but I can’t stop looking at everyone in Sydney pretending COVID-19 is gone,’ she wrote on Instagram on Thursday.

She added: ‘From most of the posts I see on here, there is no social distancing and I just don’t believe that no one has it.

‘Yes I may be a tad jealous because I’m in lockdown but I just think it’s only a matter of time.’

Rebecca is currently isolating at her Melbourne home with her husband, Trent Miller, and their daughter, Ruby.

On Wednesday, Victoria recorded 134 new cases of COVID-19, its second-highest single-day total since the pandemic began after a record 191 infections on Tuesday.

One million Victorians have been tested for COVID-19 since the start of the year, with a record of 29,424 tests conducted on Tuesday.

Nine towers in Flemington and North Melbourne were also locked down on Saturday in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, with 3,000 residents unable to leave their apartments for any reason for at least five days.

Rebecca was tested for coronavirus in March, after coming into contact with co-star Richard Wilkins, who was diagnosed with COVID-19, on the set of Weekend Today.

A few days later she revealed she tested negative and returned to return to work on Australian Ninja Warrior.

Richard may have contracted the deadly virus from singer Rita Wilson, whom he had briefly met backstage at her Sydney Opera House concert on March 7.

Rita and her husband, actor Tom Hanks, revealed on March 12 they had both tested positive for coronavirus on the Gold Coast.
