‘Some people have no social awareness!’ Casey Donovan reveals the weird conversations she heard as an Uber driver when her singing career was in a slump

Casey Donovan has reflected upon her experiences working as an Uber driver to make ends meet.

The former Australian Idol winner, 32, turned to the ride-share app between 2016 and 2017 when her singing career was in a slump, and is set to discuss her time behind the wheel on Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery this Wednesday night.

In a sneak peek for the upcoming episode, Casey explained to Julia why she decided to supplement her income with Uber driving, insisting: ‘I love driving… driving to me is very relaxing.’

When quizzed on whether anyone recognised the Listen With Your Heart singer, Casey admitted: ‘They did, not everyone, which was actually quite lovely.’

Describing the kinds of passengers she experienced, Casey said: ‘I did get some people… very happy, jolly people of a weekend in the early wee hours of the morning.’

Casey said she was shocked at just how many intimate conversations she overheard while driving.

‘You know, in our line of work, you get into the back of a cab or an Uber and you’re very conscious of what you’re talking about because you don’t know old mate in the front,’ she said.

‘But no, some people just have on social awareness,’ Casey mused.

Casey’s episode of Home Delivery will focus on her childhood and career since winning Australian Idol at the tender age of 16 in 2004.

The interview may also delve into Casey’s famous catfishing saga, which saw the songwriter duped into a six year relationship over the phone.

In 2005, Casey was tricked into falling in love with ‘boyfriend’ Campbell, with whom she had connected online when she was 16 years old.

The romance ended after she realised the man she had been dating was actually her friend, a woman called Olga.
