Mother-in-law slammed for asking to wear bride’s wedding dress

A bride left Facebook users stunned after revealing how her mother-in-law had asked to borrow her wedding dress for her own big day.

The anonymous woman, who lives in Portugal, took to Facebook group ‘That’s It I’m Wedding Shaming’ to rant about her mother-in-law.

The bride and her wife had eloped to Gibraltar and chose the mother-in-law as their sole witness. However the difficult woman behaved as a ‘brat all day’, according to the bride, and spent the ceremony flirting with the young man shadowing their officiant.

The couple fell in love and are now due to wed themselves and the mother-in-law wants to save money by reusing her daughter-in-law’s dress, despite being 70lbs heavier and 3in taller.

Other Facebook users quickly criticised the mother-in-law, insisting that the daughter-in-law should not donate her wedding dress, with one commenting: ‘Hell no, you’re not crazy for not wanting to share it! It’s one thing to sell your dress but this is different.’

The frustrated bride explained how the mother-in-law had ruined their wedding day: ‘At the morning of the wedding I had a breakdown while doing my makeup because I wanted my family to be there for me.

‘I uninvited everyone because my brother is homophobic and I didn’t want him at the wedding, so I decided it’d be best if I didn’t invite anyone at all than not inviting my brother and having that be an issue for the rest of our lives.’

The issues continued when it came to hair and make-up, with the mother-in-law refusing to help the bride before herself.

The post continued: ‘I was already in the other room crying, and a teardrop went down my face, and fell on my dress lightly staining it with foundation, which took me on a downward spiral of going from silently crying to violently sobbing.

‘My wife dropped everything she was doing to help me finish up, I ended up not finishing my makeup or doing my hair at all, so that was that.’

The anonymous woman, who lives in Portugal, revealed that her mother-on-law had asked over a text to her wife if she could borrow her wedding dress for her own big day

The wedding ceremony went ahead as planned, but the bride explained how her mother-in-law had been ‘trying to get so much attention by flirting with the only other witness there’ who was the young man learning how to officiate the ceremony.

She added: ‘My wife says it’s a mischaracterization of the events, and that I was just already annoyed at her from the start.

‘P.S.: she wore a black dress for our wedding, which was super odd, but my wife says it was just a dress she liked.

‘She was a brat for the rest of the day and made me feel awful for most of the day, so we just went home early and I just took the dress off, put it away and it’s been in my closet since.’

Facebook users were quick to defend the woman, with some insisting that she can do what she likes with her own wedding dress and suggesting the mother-in-law simply buys her own

After the wedding, the pair did not speak for a few months because the mother-in-law and intern began dating, but the woman and her mother-in-law eventually made amends.

She added: ‘Even though I have no hard feelings over that day, I still think it’s super weird that she’d ask me for the dress that I wore in a day she ruined.

‘I always felt like her mom was super possessive and weird back then, always in petty competitions with me over my wife’s attention, so wearing the dress is somehow even weirder, since it’s, you know, my dress.’

One said: ‘That is YOUR dress. You can do what you want with it. I’m sure she can find another one! I’m sorry your day had those issues but it sounds like you have a loving and supportive wife.’

Another added: ‘Nope, nope nope, she can get her own godd**m dress’.
