Charlize Theron revealed learning that she was being replaced as Furiosa in the Mad Max franchise was ‘a tough one to swallow.’

‘I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly,’ the mother-of-two, 44, told THR.

She added: ‘Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he [Miller] feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner.’

Miller previously revealed his plans to chronicle a young Furiosa in a spinoff, which will ideally cast an actress in her twenties in the leading role, during an interview with the NY Times in May.

Theron expanded about the significance of the film in her life, which gave her a ‘second chance’ after her first action film, Æon Flux, flopped 15 years ago.

Good role: 'I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly,' the mother-of-two, 44, told THR

‘A lot of women don’t get a second chance, but when men make these movies and fail miserably, they get chance after chance after chance to go and explore that again,’ she noted.

Pointing to her own career, she explained ‘Fury Road came a good decade after Æon Flux’ and has a ‘voice in the back of my head’ to remind her of the double standard.

‘It’s unfortunate that we feel like the opportunity will be taken away from us in a heartbeat if we don’t succeed, but that is the truth. It’s not a very forgiving genre when it comes to women,’ she told the outlet.

More madness: She added: 'Obviously, I would love to see that story continue, and if he [Miller] feels like he has to go about it this way, then I trust him in that manner'

The shape she keeps: During the interview, she also dived in about picking up fight choreography more quickly and how her dance background has helped her with certain stunts. 'It’s always a little overwhelming that first month in the gym, and you worry that it’s not going to come back,' she said of the choreographed fight sequences

Despite having ‘absolutely no idea’ what she was doing in the beginning, Theron credits her past as a ballerina for helping master the connection between ‘the brain and the body.’

She joked, ‘It’s still just tedious work, and you have to be somewhat crazy to put yourself through it.’

While various injuries prevented her from furthering a career in dance, years of physical storytelling led to her desire to become an actress.

In both fields, she finds comfort in the structure and getting behind a character.
