RHONY: Leah McSweeney celebrates 90 days sober with AA chip

Season 12’s breakout star of the Real Housewives of New York, Leah McSweeney, is celebrating her sobriety.

The 37-year-old proudly declared that she was 90 days sober and showed off her pink bedazzled Alcoholics Anonymous chip in a new Instagram post on Sunday.

Leah’s self-described ‘weird’ relationship with drinking has cropped up several times during her debut season of the popular reality series and she made headlines after getting drunk during an over-the-top party in The Hamptons.

‘It’s been a trippy 90 days,’ the fashion designer penned on Instagram.

Leah shared a snap of a pink glitter 90-day sobriety chip that featured matching rhinestones around the triangle emblem with the numeral ‘3’ in the center.

‘To thine own self be true,’ was etched around the AA coin. Followers flooded the reality star’s comments with support. 

Leah joined the Bravo franchise earlier this year and in the season premiere, she revealed that she had been sober for just shy of a decade but had started drinking again six months prior to filming. 

Then, in episode four, the star showed off her wild side by getting tipsy and stripping down to go skinny dipping with her co-stars. 

Leah explained at the time that after the episode aired, fans started sending her messages on social media to thank her for being so frank and honest about her ‘complicated relationship with alcohol.’  

She opened up about the experience last month during an exclusive interview with DailyMailTV. 

‘I think because [viewers] saw me drunk being so funny and having so much fun, that it wasn’t … no one’s worried,’ Leah said of the incident during the chat.

For the most part, the fashion designer said that fan reaction had been supportive, with people appreciating that the road to sobriety is not always a straight line.

‘Of course, I got some comments like ‘your daughter must be ashamed of how you acted,” she admitted. But, she said that type of negativity doesn’t ‘even bother me at all,’ she explained.

In the mid-season teaser recently shared by Dorinda Medley, the ladies got even wilder than when their raucous Hamptons party.

The remainder of the 12th season of RHONY looks sure to be some of the best laughs yet, as they embark on another girls trip abroad.

Leah had previously told DailyMailTV that she would get more candid about her relationship with drinking throughout the season.

In one April episode, the star revealed to her fellow Housewives her mom was furious with her after she admitted she was drinking again. 

‘For my mom, when she heard I’m drinking again, it’s just like a trigger to her,’ Leah said during the episode. ‘I definitely think that my mom still views me as that wild teenager. It’s very hard for her to accept me as a 37-year-old woman who’s got her s**t together.’
