‘I’ve only made it five or six times’: MasterChef star Laura Sharrad blames the show’s editing for making it look like she cooks pasta all the time

She has come under fire for cooking too much pasta on this season of the show.

And now MasterChef star Laura Sharrad has revealed the real reason it looks like she is presenting similar dishes week after week.

Speaking to the Adelaide Advertiser on Friday, Laura blamed editing, and said she had only made ‘five or six’ pasta dishes throughout the season.

Laura, who owns NIDO Bar and Pasta with her husband Max, said producers often concentrate on the contestant’s specialties, and in her case that is, of course, pasta.

Speaking to TV Week magazine earlier this month, she said: ‘I do own a pasta restaurant so it would be weird if I didn’t cook pasta on the show.’

She even joked Poh Ling Yeow needed to stay in her own lane, after the 47-year-old fan favourite tried cooking pasta as well.

‘Poh’s good at everything. When she started cooking pasta, I’m like ‘Damn you, Poh! Stay out of my lane’,’ Laura said.

Laura has proudly spoken about her love of the Italian dish and her cultural heritage on the show: ‘This is what I do. This is my heritage,’ she said during one episode.

In one episode, the contestants were given a ‘mystery box’ of four ingredients to contend with. In Laura’s case, they ended up being apples, potatoes, mint and peas.

After revealing she set her sights on whipping up a tasty gnocchi, she was roasted by viewers on Twitter.

A second joked: ‘Three certainties in life. Death, taxes, and Laura will cook pasta.’

‘I’ve not watched this episode but already know the pasta dish is Laura’s,’ joked another fan, presumably just tuning in to judging.

MasterChef continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel Ten
