Emily Atack EXCLUSIVE: Star credits her lockdown weight-loss to not being able to go to the pub

Emily Atack has credited her one-stone weight-loss to not being able to go to the pub amid the coronavirus lockdown.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, the actress, 30, admitted she’s shed ‘a lot by accident’ and feels ‘much healthier’ since the closure of the hospitality industry during the global crisis.

The Inbetweeners star, who is a spokesperson for Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment Award at this year’s BAFTA Television ceremony, said while she’s overhauled her lifestyle, she ‘can’t wait’ to get back in the boozer — which she describes as her ‘happy place’.

In April, Emily revealed she lost a stone in three months after a troll warned she would ‘put on weight’ in quarantine.

Sharing the secrets behind her slimmed-down figure, the thespian told us: ‘I think because I haven’t been able to the pubs I’m healthier. I’ve been working out a lot in my garden, which I’m very lucky to have.’

The TV star also detailed the positive effects of exercise on her mental health: ‘I’ve lost a lot of weight by accident really.

‘It wasn’t my goal to lose weight but I think it’s down to not going to pubs and restaurants. I work out more so for my mental health, the goal is never to lose weight but to remain as happy and healthy as I can be.’

The media personality confessed she still likes to treat herself to a glass of wine once in a while, stating: ‘I’ve definitely been boozing in lockdown like everyone but I’ve been conscious to not drink too much.’

Explaining the significance of pubs, which will be reopened with restrictions in England on July 4, the blonde beauty declared: ‘I can’t wait to go back to the pub!

‘With that, we all laugh and say, “classic Brits just want to get back to the pub”, but the pub is so much more than a pub.

‘It’s where we share our deepest and darkest secrets and have every type of conversation. It’s our happy place. I shall be doing the Conga when I get back!’

Emily rose to prominence as Charlotte Hinchcliffe on the coming-of-age sitcom The Inbetweeners, which ran on E4 from 2008 until 2010.

The show’s creators recently revealed plans to reunite the cast, including the likes of lead actors Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison, a year after the comeback special was universally panned.

On whether she’d be open to reprising her role, The Tourist star said: ‘I think there’s rumours about the Inbetweeners reunion, but I’d never say never to doing anything that has to do with the show as it was a big part of my life.’

She also shared her thoughts on the removal of comedy shows such as Little Britain and Bo’ Selecta from online networks amid controversy over the use of blackface in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

‘I think in the world of TV everyone has to start changing’, the Celebrity Juice star admitted.

‘Anything to do with joining Black Lives Matter in a positive way can only be a good thing and means we’re improving and educating ourselves.

‘Standing with the BLM movement and the community is so important and the removal of these shows is a step forward.’

‘There’s so many cool ones, but with that one, it’s such a feel-good family moment, we were all screaming at the TV!’

She also gave excited viewers insight into what’s to come from the awards: ‘It’s going to be a very different ceremony this year, which is sad but we’re catering to this big night in hosted by the lovely Richard Ayoade.

‘It’s been a really tough time for everybody, so TV more than ever is bringing people closer together. This award is important as it is these type of edge-on-our-seats moments that we watch with our family.

‘I’ve always been extremely passionate about TV, I’ve worked on it for a long time like my family. We were basically told to stay in and watch TV so I love that I’ve had more time to watch TV. I’m really proud to be doing this campaign.’

On her favourite TV moment ever, Emily reflected on her much-loved stint on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which saw her finish in second place behind footballer manager Harry Redknapp in December 2018.

She enthused: ‘I’ve been doing this for 13 years now which makes me feel so old, but I’d have to say my favourite moment is coming out of the Jungle.

‘Sitting next to Harry in the final while Holly [Willoughby] and Dec [Donnelly] were asking about our journeys was the most surreal moment.

‘I feel so lucky and proud that I actually get to be a part of those moments that people watch. I’ve watched moments like that myself. I remember when I first went into the Jungle, I felt like I climbed into the TV.’
