Amanda Seyfried is optimistic about returning for a third Mama Mia! film

She helped lead two box office hits with Mama Mia! and its sequel Mama Mia! Here We Go Again.

Amanda Seyfried revealed that she would be down for a third ABBA-centric film ‘in a heartbeat’ in an interview with Collider on Sunday.

The 34-year-old Jennifer’s Body star opened up about the freedom of no longer having to adapt a stage play, while also delving into her recent work on the Kevin Bacon–starring horror film You Should Have Left.

Amanda got on the subject when she said she said she would ‘love’ to make another jukebox musical with tunes by the folk singer–songwriter Patty Griffin.

As far as a third film in the Mama Mia! series went, she seemed optimistic based on how popular the sequel had been.

‘Listen, every single person in that movie would say yes in a heartbeat because we want to hang out with each other,’ she said.

‘That’s what we talked about last time, like did we ever think that we’d end up here again on an island in Croatia? So yeah, I wish there was a Mamma Mia 3…’

However, she worried that there might not be enough new musical material to use, even if the script was solid and the principal cast members all returned.

‘I’ll tell you what — I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and I hope I’m wrong again. I don’t think there are enough ABBA songs to make a third movie,’ she said.

‘We’d have to use Super Trooper again and we’d have to use Mamma Mia again and have to use them in a different way.’

More freedom: Amanda said the sequel, which starred Lily James as a young version of Meryl Streep's character, was better because it no longer had to follow a stage play; still from Mama Mia! Here We Go Again

Amanda also opined that Mama Mia! Here We Go Again was a success with critics when the original film only received mixed reviews because the sequel had a ‘better story, because they had something to grow on.’

‘Like the first story had to match the stage show. So it was like, they were kind of stuck,’ she explained.

‘With the second story, it could have been anything. Having Meryl’s character die kind of gave us so many good storylines. It was kind of a genius idea because you’re like, no, we don’t want to lose her.

‘But at the same time, look at what you can do, you can go back. And Lily James can play young Meryl. It was just perfect. It was so well written,’ said Amanda.

The Big Love star also spoke about her new horror film You Should Have Left, in which she stars as the much younger actress wife of a middled-aged man, played by Kevin Bacon.

The film, which has a 46 percent rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes so far, is her first foray into the horror genre since Jennifer’s Body in 2009, which also starred Megan Fox.

She said being a Kevin Bacon fan made it easy for her to sign on to the film, which directly addresses their large age gap, though she didn’t feel odd about working with the older actor.

‘It’s so funny that he doesn’t really feel that much older. I think my dad is like the same age as him and my dad also looks pretty young. And Kevin looks fantastic. He and [Kevin’s wife] Kyra [Sedgwick] are hot and I can’t tell how old they are. You just can’t,’ she joked.

‘I’m in my mid-thirties and going to be 35 this year. So I don’t feel like there was that much of a gap, but there is. There was it seen as weird. It’s still seen as really f***ed up.’
