New rules to protect vital firms from foreign predators

Ministers set to introduce new rules to protect firms that are critical to public health from foreign takeovers

Ministers are set to introduce new rules to protect firms that are critical to public health from foreign takeovers.

Changes to the law will give them powers to intervene when bids are made for key firms like drug companies and those involved in making personal protective equipment.

Protection: According to Business Secretary Alok Sharma, ‘the UK is open for investment, but not for exploitation’

The changes will also expand the Government’s ability to scrutinise takeovers so it covers companies involved in sensitive areas such as AI.

Business Secretary Alok Sharma said: ‘The UK is open for investment, but not for exploitation.’
