MILTON GLOBAL OPPORTUNITIES: A quirky trust that only invests in other London-listed trusts

What is it? An unusual trust that only invests in other investment trusts listed on the London Stock Exchange and the managers think are trading at significant discounts to their intrinsic value.

Started in 2004, it has assets of around £65million.

What does it invest in? Manager Nick Greenwood tries to pounce on firms on the brink of a turnaround.

This could include trusts that are going through a reorganisation or are in an out-of-favour area.

Top holdings include German residential property and Vietnam.

What do the experts like? Ben Yearsley, director at Shore Financial Planning, said: ‘I’m a big fan of Nick Greenwood – he knows the investment trust space inside out. This is obviously a more specialist trust than some, but it’s one to buy and tuck away.’

Any downsides? Yearsley said: ‘The size is the big drawback – £64million is small for a trust.’

Greenwood has also warned the trust is braced for some ‘whipsawing and choppy markets’ going forward, as the Covid-19 crisis continues to play out.
