Madeleine West reveals the surprising habit she can never live without

Neighbours star Madeleine West reveals the surprising habit she can never live without – and she didn’t realise it until COVID-19 lockdown

She plays Dee Bliss on long-running Channel 10 soap Neighbours.

And like many of us, Madeleine West has been using her time in self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic to reconsider what is really ‘essential’ in her life.

In a column for 9Honey on Friday, the 39-year-old revealed she’d let go of many of the things she once found ‘indispensable’, such as trips to the beautician.

Changing priorities: Like many of us, Madeleine West has been using her time in self-isolation during the coronavirus pandemic to reconsider what is really ‘essential’ in her life

‘During social isolation, we all experienced some degree of sacrifice once we identified what we regarded as “essential”… which left many of us asking: “What is essential to me?”‘ she asked.

Madeleine discovered the one thing that truly mattered to her was a weekly catch-up with a girlfriend over coffee.

While the mother of six has been keeping in touch with friends via Zoom, she loves the ‘ritual’ and ‘human connection’ of getting out the house.

‘It’s more the practice of meeting on common ground, the repeated action of finding a table and ordering a beverage that massages and coaxes forth meaningful conversation,’ she explained.

Finally, the Underbelly star admitted she had learnt an important lesson – that the ‘simple things’ in life are really the most important.

‘The old adage “the simple things in life are often the best” is still on point, and it’s only when we become disenchanted with the simple that we lose sight of the bigger picture and stop seeking meaning,’ she wrote.

It comes after Madeleine surprised fans last month when she revealed she’d started taking care of her own hair and stopped going to the salon.

The brunette shared two photos to Instagram, showing herself before and after her attempt at an at-home dye job.

In the before picture, she displayed her lighter brown tresses.
