‘For years I tried to hide my Persian heritage’: Sophie Kasaei shares snap ’embracing my natural curly hair’ and says ‘I’m finally proud of who I am’
Sophie Kasaei said she felt ready to finally embrace her natural curly hair after ‘years of trying to hide my Persian heritage’.
The former Geordie Shore star, 30, took to Instagram on Thursday to share a photo showing off her gorgeous curls while posing in a white Levi’s crop top.
Sophie told fans the photo was ‘bittersweet’ because for years she wanted to look like ‘other girls with naturally straight hair and light eyes’, but now has learnt to feel proud of who she is.

In a lengthy caption, Sophie wrote: ‘Embracing.
‘This image is a little bit bitter sweet tbh. For years and years I tried to hide my natural curly hair and my Persian heritage as I just wanted to be like the other girls with naturally straight hair and light eyes.
‘I always felt embarrassed to talk about my background as a kid as back then i felt it was uncool to be different.

‘Oh how stupid I was, it’s took me 30 year to finally be proud of being me, proud of my background, proud of who and what I am. We live in a society now where it’s ok to be different and stand out from the crowd.
‘So to all the people reading this who feel like they need to blend in to the crowd. F**k that embrace your differences be you ! I wish I could go back and tell my younger self this, but I suppose it’s never to late. Who wants to be normal anyways?’
The stunner recently shared an honest YouTube video with her followers discussing how comparing herself to others affected her mental health.
In her first ever upload, the brave star told fans that ‘since isolating’ she has had time to reflect on true happiness.

The Off The Rails Boutique owner described how starting out on the reality show made her try and be someone she was not and said ‘deep down’ she was ‘fighting a losing battle.’
Addressing her fans, she said: ‘I think growing up and being in the industry young I had a lot of pressure to be like other people, I really compared myself to others so much.
‘I always thought everyone was better than me I always made excuses I thought I’d just settle and be less.
‘That’s the mindset I had for a while and as I have got older I’ve realised that it is not the mindset to be having.
‘As I’ve got older, I’ve realised you don’t need to be competitive with people, there is no reason to be competitive with people around you.’
Sophie shot to fame on Geordie Shore in 2011 when she was 21 and appeared on seven seasons on the show.
