The Morning Show hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies break their silence on false reports of axing

The Morning Show hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies address a SHOCKING rumour about them live on air – insisting it’s ‘100 per cent not true’

The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies were forced to address false rumours about the program’s cancellation on Monday.

The hosts interrupted an entertainment news segment with Peter Ford to deny a tabloid report that suggested they were about to lose their jobs.

Responding to the article in Woman’s Day that claimed The Morning Show was being axed by Seven as a cost-cutting measure, Kylie said: ‘It’s 100 per cent not true!’

The fabricated article claimed that Seven executives were considering taking the show off the air and extending Sunrise by an hour.

Addressing the article on air, Larry said furiously: ‘We’ve won every national ratings block since we started 13 years ago. Are they going to axe that?’

Kylie added: ‘You’ve got to laugh, right?’

Seven’s Director of News and Public Affairs, Craig McPherson also told Daily Mail Australia on Monday the claims were ‘complete rubbish’.

‘The Morning Show has been a dominant market leader for well over a decade. Advertisers are justifiably queuing up to get on the program,’ he said.

After Seven’s denial, Woman’s Day removed the offending article from its website.

Claims: Woman's Day alleged there had been 'closed-door meetings' at Seven over the proposed axing but no decision had been made. Craig McPherson, Seven's Director of News and Public Affairs, insisted however that no such discussions had taken place

The program has been hosted by Larry and Kylie since 2007 and airs at the same time as Channel Nine’s Today Extra and Studio 10 on Network Ten.

Kylie told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2017 that the secret to her and Larry’s success was ‘respect and genuine love for what we do’.

In 2019, Larry said that he and Kylie don’t always see eye to eye on everything, and the program is better off for it.

‘You don’t want us to be vanilla. The last thing you want is two people to sit there and just agree with each other and laugh at each other’s silly jokes. We call each other out and I think that’s part of the magic of the show,’ he said.
