Siesta Key star Alex Kompothecras is removed from the show after allegedly racist social media posts surface
Fans tuning into the mid-season premiere of Siesta Key were surprised to learn the two-hour premiere was shaved down to one hour, with Alex Kompothecras ultimately scrubbed from the show.
The 25-year-old Kompothecras was fired from the show earlier on Tuesday, after allegedly racist social media posts surfaced, according to TMZ.
MTV also released a statement which read, ‘We’ve made the decision to cut ties with Alex and are editing the current season to minimize his presence. He will not be in future seasons of Siesta Key.’

Kompothecras’ firing is the reason his name was scrubbed from the opening credits of the show and why his air time was decreased dramatically.
Twitter user @GamerVev noticed that, ‘Siesta Key removed Alex & his gf bios from their MTV site, he removed them from his bios & unfollowed them, and the premiere is 54 minutes now instead of 2 hours.
Vev added, ‘Wonder why Dee & Taylor’s were announced but his isn’t?’ referring to two other MTV stars who were removed from their shows recently due to racist remarks surfacing.

The cable network also cut ties with Teen Mom OG star Taylor Selfridge after discovering her 2012 posts about anti-racism protests.
‘MTV pulled Teen Mom OG At Home: Cory & Taylor’s Baby Special from its Tuesday schedule and is ending our relationship with Taylor Selfridge in light of her past racist statements on social media,’ MTV said in a statement.
‘MTV strongly condemns systemic racism and stands with those raising their voices against injustice,’ the network added.

They also cut ties with The Challenge star Dee Ngyuen after her offensive comments about the Black Lives Matter movement.
‘As a result of Dee Nguyen’s offensive comments on the Black Lives Matter movement, we have severed ties with her. Out of respect for our Challengers, we’ll air our season as planned. We strongly condemn systemic racism and stand with those raising their voices against injustice,’ the network’s statement read.
As for Kompothecras, his father Gary is a producer on the show, and while he will be removed from the current season as much as possible, his girlfriend Alyssa Salerno will still be part of the show.

‘As of now, she is still a part of the show,’ and MTV spokesperson told People in a statement.
Neither Kompothecras nor Salerno have publicly commented on social media about the firing thus far.
Siesta Key debuted in 2017, with the new season reportedly centering on Kompothecras and Salerno expecting their first child.
Salerno gave birth to their first child, a daughter named Alessi, on June 11, weighing 8 lbs 3 oz.
