Big Brother puts housemates through intense phobia challenges as they scream for mercy

The Big Brother housemates were pushed to their psychological limits on Sunday night as they participated in a unique challenge to win food for the house.

After spending a week inside the Big Brother house, rations had begun to deplete quicker than expected, and the housemates were desperate to fill their fridge.

To be given more food, the housemates simply had to each spend time inside a small room with something that they feared.

‘I didn’t think it was legal to mess with our psychological emotions!’ Big Brother put the housemates through an intense phobia challenge on Sunday night’s episode

If they were successful, Big Brother would reward the housemates with sweets, fruit, champagne and a chocolate fountain.

The room – hilariously named ‘The Ginger-dread house’ – was equipped with a panic button which allowed the housemates to abort their challenge at any time.

First to enter the room was Sarah, who revealed she gets ‘severe anxiety’ when it comes to knees.

When she entered the room, she was startled to see an array of hairy knees poking through holes in the wall.

‘I didn’t think it was legal to mess with my psychological emotions like that!’ she wailed.

Bubble phobia:Next up was Danni, who began hysterically crying and shaking when upon entering the room, which was now filled with soapy bubbles

Next up was Danni, who had an unusual phobia of bubble baths.

‘How does everybody have phobias this bad?’ a gobsmacked Xavier said as he watched live footage of Danni’s meltdown from the lounge room.

'I have never touched a dog': Next up was Angela, whose fear of dogs was put to the test when she was forced to stay inside the room with an adorable white poodle.

Thankfully, Danni managed to pull herself together and perform Big Brother’s task – to make a beard out of bubbles on her face.

‘I have never touched a dog,’ she lamented, adding: ‘In Africa, dogs are wild. We don’t keep them in the house!’

Fear factor: Sophie, who has a phobia of snakes, was then forced to spend time in a room with a large yellow serpent

Big Brother requested that Angela place a small graduation hat on the dog’s head.

‘Don’t bite me!’ she whimpered, edging closer to the placid-looking pooch.

Despite her dramatic reaction, Angela finally did as Big Brother asked.

Next was Casey, who had to face her bizarre fear of grating cheese.

‘You’re a sadistic man!’ she shouted, as she reluctantly shredded a large block of yellow cheese.

Finally, AFL star Daniel was seen visibly shaking and cowering in the corner as he faced a room full of pigeons.

Big Brother tasked him with a very simple task- to eat an ice cream that had been left in the middle of the room.

Panic-stricken Daniel scoffed down the ice cream as quickly as he could, as the pigeons began swooping and attempting to steal a bite of his food.

After Daniel successfully completed the challenge, Big Brother was finally satisfied that the housemates had earned their prize.

Big Brother Australia continues Monday from 7.30pm on Channel Seven
