Gabrielle Union to star in Netflix romantic comedy film The Perfect Find

Gabriel Union has been cast in the lead role for upcoming romantic comedy film The Perfect Find, that is slated to premiere on Netflix.

Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios is financing and producing the film alongside Union and her production company I’ll Have Another.

Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Tia Williams, the movie will be directed by Numa Perrier, whose directorial debut Jezebel premiered last year at SXSW.

Union will play Jenna Jones, a woman hopeful that her new job in beauty journalism will rep a fresh start in her life, according to Deadline.

She soon learns that her new boss, Darcy, is her frenemy. Jenna starts a relationship with the company’s videographer, Eric, and things get complicated when she learns he’s Darcy’s son.

Leigh Davenport adapted Williams’ book for the screen. 

Confidential Films’ Jeff Morrone, Tommy Oliver and Codie Elaine Oliver will also be producing.

Union got her start by appearing on television sitcoms in the 1990s.

She went on to several supporting roles in teenage comedy films, including She’s All That (1999) and 10 Things I Hate About You (1999).

That led to her breakthrough role in the teen cheerleading comedy film Bring It On (2000). 

Her Hollywood film resume also includes The Brothers (2001), Bad Boys II (2003), Deliver Us from Eva (2003), Neo Ned (2005), Daddy’s Little Girls (2007), Think Like a Man (2012) and Think Like a Man Too (2014) and Breaking In (2018).

The Nebraska native began starred as lead character in the BET drama series, Being Mary Jane , for five seasons, beginning in 2013.

Currently the 47-year-old actress stars in the crime drama television series L.A.’s Finest (2019-present) alongside Jessica Alba.

Union, who’s married to NBA legend Dwyane Wade, is also the author of a memoir, We’re Going to Need More Wine (2017).

She also wrote a children’s book, Welcome to the Party, that was released in May 2020.

The former America’s Got Talent judge is currently embroiled in legal action with Simon Cowell and Fremantle over her firing from that show, which the actress claims amounts to discrimination.
