He has been trying to put his tumultuous relationship with ex-‘wife’ Stacey Hampton behind him.

But Michael Goonan is struggling to move forward now that his season of Married At First Sight is being aired on U.S. network Lifetime.

The 29-year-old businessman told Fifi, Fev & Byron on Friday that he was being trolled online by American viewers, bringing back bad memories.

‘I’m getting Yankee insults now… it’s reliving a horrible experience,’ said Michael, who has since found love with co-star KC Osborne.

When asked how his relationship with the dance instructor was going, Michael said things were ‘good’ but that MAFS airing in America had forced them to address issues from their past.

‘It’s weird because America has to prop the whole thing back up, so you’re reliving events from your life that you want to move on from, which is a bit of a difficult one,’ he said, adding that the cast had ‘no choice’ when it came to the show’s international distribution.

The latest season of MAFS started airing on Lifetime in the U.S. on May 27 and will air on Wednesday and Thursday nights until all 36 episodes are shown.

Michael and law graduate Stacey were embroiled in two cheating scandals during their time on the show.

The first was a love triangle involving co-star Hayley Vernon.

Hayley admitted to Stacey that she’d kissed Michael, although he claimed he’d been too drunk to remember the incident, which happened off-camera.

Weeks later, fellow groom Mikey Pembroke claimed at the reunion dinner party that he’d slept with Stacey earlier in the season.

Michael is now living with KC, an ‘intruder’ bride whose relationship with musician Drew Brauer fizzled out shortly after their final vows.

Meanwhile, Michael isn’t the only cast member to be copping backlash from the U.S.

Tash Herz has expressed her disappointment at the homophobic backlash which has been directed towards her and ex-‘wife’ Amanda Micallef.

‘Our series of MAFS streams in the U.S. on Lifetime in three days and the homophobia is already BLAZING which just makes me real proud of the response from Australia,’ she wrote on Instagram last month.

Dozens of American viewers had left comments below a trailer for Tash and Amanda’s wedding, calling their union ‘sinful’, ‘disgusting’ and ‘sick’.
