The hitmaker, whose real name is Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, recently took to her social media to explain why, although she is biracial, she does not use the term ‘we’ when speaking about black people.

Born in new Jersey, she is the daughter of an African-American father and a white European mother.

‘im white passing. it’s not my place to say ‘we.’ it’s my place to help,’ she explained earlier this month.

‘i am in pain for my family, but nobody is gonna kill me based on my skin color,’ the she added.  ‘I’ve always been proud of who I am but it’d be an absolute disservice to say ‘we’ when I’m not susceptible to the same violence.’
