Martine soared to fame playing Tiffany Mitchell in EastEnders, first appearing in 1994 before leaving the show for good in 1998. Her next huge role was that of the Prime Minister’s tea lady Natalie in Love Actually in 2002.

Having recently moved to their plush new home, Martine revealed she has been hard at work, starting with her dining room, which featured muted yet chic details including a statement mirror.

In the midst of her renovation, she added the snap of the dining room while adding a caption reading: ‘The Dining room is finally taking shape! More work to do but I love it! We haven’t been in this house long – And despite lockdown, we’ve had lots of requests to do work linked with the house!…

‘Typical! So! I’ve been painting, fixing, scrubbing, measuring, and have generally been buried in cardboard boxes! I didn’t realise just how much stuff I had. We still have kitchens and bathrooms from 1984 but hey ho we are getting there and I love making things look beautiful…

‘I’ve always felt a home should be a place to feel comfort and inspiration and it’s always lovely if you can get it to reflect who you are. We are getting there… slowly! Loads of love to you all! #homedecor #diy #slowlybutsurely’.

Martine suggested people had previously been ‘spoilt’ by the opportunities of modern life. The star said: ‘If you have any underlying illness you can’t take risks…

‘As with any chronic condition you can have flare-ups. When I go outside I always have my mask and my gloves and take it very seriously…

‘I have been really good emotionally for a long time and I have felt a lot calmer. It has been good to realise it is okay to do things at your own pace…

‘Life is so fast that there never seems to be time. Now there is this new togetherness, even with social distancing. People have become a lot kinder than they have been for a long time.
