McDonald’s has today announced a new ‘walk in’ service which will allow customers to collect orders at the till.

On June 17, McDonald’s will reopen 11 Roadchef service station restaurants to the public for walk-in takeaway for motorway users.

This will roll-out to high street, town and city centre restaurants across the UK and Ireland from Wednesday, June 24.

The number of customers allowed in store will be capped, with a one-way system in place and hand sanitiser at cleaning stations.

There will be fewer self-order screens switched on, sanitised at least every 30 minutes, while seating areas, customer toilets and lifts will remain closed.

The fast food giant also announced today that its popular breakfast menu will be back from June 24 but has yet to reveal the branches at which it will be available.

McDonald’s said the breakfast menu will only be available in ‘a small number’ of restaurants to begin with as part of a trial. The plan is then to roll it out nationwide in July if the trial is deemed successful.

There was chaos across the country as the fast food giant reopened 1,000 restaurants last week with orders via McDelivery or via one of 923 drive-thrus.

Customers were seen queuing for hours to get their hands on a Big Mac, with cars blocking off emergency vehicles in some locations.

Fans can also get their hands on McMuffins as of June 24 when McDonald’s will trial breakfast service in a small number of restaurants.

It aims to roll out the breakfast menu nationwide in July. Stores reopened with a restricted menu last month, with lower staff numbers and social distancing in kitchens.

Tomorrow, McDelivery will return in over 570 restaurants across the UK and Ireland.

The full list will be available on the McDonald’s website in the morning and customers will be able to order via Uber Eats or Just Eat from 11am.
