Go Ahead app helps passengers avoid busy buses

Go Ahead travel group launching app to help passengers avoid busy buses

Go Ahead travel group is launching an app today to help passengers avoid busy buses.

The When To Travel tool will be available to customers in Newcastle first, before being rolled out across Manchester, Oxford, Norwich, Brighton, Crawley, Southampton, Bournemouth, Salisbury and Plymouth.

Safety first: From June 15, it will be compulsory to wear face coverings on public transport, in addition to the existing social-distancing requirement

Using artificial intelligence, and designed with the tech firm City Swift, it will show customers how many seats are occupied on the next bus so they can choose an emptier service and social-distance properly.

From June 15, it will be compulsory to wear face coverings on public transport, in addition to the existing social-distancing requirement for everyone in the country to keep two metres apart.

A double-decker bus that could usually carry 75 people will be limited to 15 seats.

Katy Taylor, of Go Ahead, said: ‘Along with the enhanced cleaning and disinfecting of buses, and by following the Government advice to wash hands frequently, pay by contactless, and wear face coverings whilst on board, customers can travel in safety and with confidence.’
