‘I beat him at everything!’ Roman Kemp and dad Martin poke fun at their family rivalry as they prepare to go head-to-head in new weekend show
Roman Kemp and his dad Martin have shared an insight into their family rivalry as they prepare to host a new weekend show.
The pair admitted they’ve always been competitive since Roman was a young age, with the Spandau Ballet star saying he strives for his son to be ‘better than him.’
Roman, 27, and Martin, 58, are set to join forces for a new Sunday morning series that will see them compete in a variety of challenges.

Speaking about their hilarious rivalry, Roman told The Mirror: ‘When I was a kid, I always lost to him at Fifa on the PlayStation. Then age kicked in and I started storming it. He hated it.
‘Now I beat him at everything. Well, almost everything. Not music – he’s a great musician and that’s his strong point.’
Meanwhile Martin said he’s always been determined to teach Roman to excel at everything, even if that means he’s better than himself.

He said: ‘Roman thinks he’s going to beat me at everything and that’s the trouble – he has always beaten me at everything.’
The 80s star added that he doesn’t want to see himself as Roman’s boss just because he’s his dad, and feels they’ve always had a relationship more like two friends than a father and a child.
Martin – who also shares daughter Harley Moon with his wife of 31 years Shirlie – also recalled the moment he first realised his son had grown into a man, when they were both taught how to fly Tiger Moths for an adventure series.

Meanwhile Roman said that while there’s nothing he won’t discuss with his parents now he’s an adult, though did confess they had their fair share of rows when he was a teenager.
The pair – who are currently living apart due to the coronavirus pandemic – are set to join forces for a new Sunday morning series, which will see them take part in an array of challenges.
Martin said he’s hoping to try and get at least one over on his son during the show but did confess he’d probably lose if they were to take part in a dance-off.
Martin and Roman’s Sunday Best! begins on 14 June at 8:30am on ITV.
