Hilary Duff takes to Instagram to celebrate her eight-year-old son Luca’s ‘last day of second grade’

Hilary Duff welcomed her eldest child and only son, Luca, back in 2012 with ex husband Mike Comrie, 39.

And on Thursday, the 32-year-old star of Lizzie McGuire took to Instagram to celebrate her now eight-year-old son’s ‘last day of second grade.’

In the post – seen by her 15.2million followers – Luca kept his head down as he showcased some silly moves for Hilary’s camera lens.  

He appeared to be in the entry way of the home Hilary shares with her current husband Matthew Koma, 33, in Studio City.

Luca donned a darling navy blue blazer layered over a white button-up blouse.

He gave his look at tinge of edge by rocking a pair of camouflage print shorts and some color-block, high top sneakers. 

Hilary was married to Luca’s professional hockey playing father Mike from 2010 to 2016. 

Duff and Koma – who she married in December of last year – share one-year-old daughter Banks, who they welcomed in 2018.

In a recent interview with PureWow, Hilary opened up about the guilt she felt regarding her second pregnancy and how adding another child to the mix would affect Luca.  

‘The guilt that I felt for bringing [Banks] into the world was so big. It was just he and I for so long that he was like, “Why? Why, Mom? Why would you do this? I really just love the way it is.” And it wasn’t bratty, it was just so sad,’ explained the Cheaper By The Dozen actress. 

Being that she was already pregnant upon learning of Luca’s feelings, she felt helpless.

‘I was like, “How do I reverse this?! It’s too late now.” It’s such big feelings. When you’re pregnant, everything just feels more magnified.’

Luckily for Hilary, when Banks entered into the world in October of 2018, Luca felt nothing but love for her.

‘He came in after I had her. I was just holding her, and the look on his face was an absolute shock,’ Hilary recalled.  

‘He just said, “That’s my sister!” And he had to sneeze, so he ran out of the room and was like, ‘I’ll be right back.’ He let out this huge sneeze in the hallway and said, “I had to sneeze and I knew I couldn’t do it in here near her.”‘
