The Voice’s Matt Gresham dismisses claims Guy Sebastian is giving him special treatment

‘He definitely does not favour anyone’: The Voice’s Matt Gresham slams claims his friend and coach Guy Sebastian is giving him special treatment on the show

Fans were up in arms when it was revealed that The Voice contestant Matt Gresham and coach Guy Sebastian were already friends outside of the show following his audition on Sunday.

And now Matt has addressed the backlash, insisting to Who magazine that Guy has no ‘favourites’ on the show.

‘Guy’s a very real person and he definitely does not favour anyone and he tells it how it is and that’s what I think has made him so successful because he’s just straight to the point,’ he said.

‘He definitely does not favour anyone’: The Voice’s Matt Gresham slammed claims his friend and coach Guy Sebastian is giving him special treatment on the Channel Nine talent show

The musician explained that he understands how it can look like Guy is giving special treatment to his brother Chris, who auditioned last week and chose Kelly Rowland as his mentor- or his friends.

He believes the former Australian Idol winner would take everyone’s interest into consideration, but is ultimately brutally honest in his opinion.

Matt said that Guy has been critical of his work in the past.

He admitted he wrote the ARIA-award winning singer five songs for his last album, all of which he rejected.

‘He hated all of them and then wrote one and he was like, “I love that one”. But he’s not one of those people that… he’s not a sugar-coater, put it that way! It’s kind of annoying, actually.’

The Voice hopeful even revealed that Guy poked fun at him following his blind audition.

‘He even told me actually, afterwards, “You sang that song pretty good, but I thought you could sing it better, you know?” Just to p**s me off,’ he laughed.

On Sunday’s episode of The Voice, coach Delta Goodrem was left speechless when Guy revealed that he and Matt were good friends after she unknowingly stopped them from working together by using her ‘block’ button.

Each coach has two ‘blocks’ they can secretly use during the auditions this year. This means they’re able to block another coach from getting a singer that they want.

‘You don’t know this, but Matt’s a really good mate of mine. That’s why the block hurts, because we go way back together,’ explained a frustrated Guy.

Explaining why he auditioned on The Voice, Matt said: ‘I’m from Western Australia, about two years ago I suffered with some really bad PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression and basically just quit music.

‘I haven’t really been able to do anything until this.’
