Kate Garraway’s GMB co-stars praised the star for ‘keeping hope alive’ amid her comatose husband Derek Draper’s coronavirus battle.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, wiped away tears as she took part in a nationwide applause in honour of the NHS key workers on Thursday night while her critically-ill husband Derek continues to fight the disease in hospital. 

The morning after the clap – which is the last of the weekly tributes – co-stars including Ranvir Singh, Ben Shephard and Piers Morgan praised Kate for ‘keeping hope alive’ following her heartbreaking and moving updates.

Ranvir read out her message, which read: ‘We movingly and openly said the NHS are keeping Derek alive. Hope has to keep us all going.’

Ben added: ‘We are sending our love to them and to all of you out there’.

After announcing Kate’s update, they shared her video with her kids – with Ranvir sweetly joked: ‘We’ve got some video of Billy on the drums. They’ve got good rhythm just like their mum and dad.’

Piers meanwhile tweeted: ‘This breaks my heart. Few happier, more positive people than [Kate[. Or a more loyal, decent friend & colleague…

‘So many families like hers going through so much unimaginable anguish in this crisis. Sending all my love to Kate & continuing to root for Derek.’
