Tom Hanks, 63, and Darryl Hannah, 59, join Josh Gad’s socially-distanced Splash reunion 

It’s been 36 years since their comedy made waves at the box office.

And Splash stars Tom Hanks, 63, and Darryl Hannah, 59, reunited on Tuesday, via actor Josh Gad’s social distancing reunion YouTube series, Reunited Apart.

Also joining the stars were the film’s director Ron Howard, and special guest Ryan Reynolds.

Hannah admitted she was nervous during her romantic scenes with co-star Hanks.

‘I was terrified because I was still, even though I was like 21 or 22, I still really hadn’t had a boyfriend,’ said the Kill Bill star of their kissing scenes. 

‘I was terrified about the kiss.’ 

The wife of singer Neil Young also spoke about the difficulty of shooting the film’s many underwater scenes.

‘Tom and I didn’t have masks so we couldn’t really see. So it was like hit or miss whether we got the signals or understood them,’ she said.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds was invited in his capacity as a Canadian actor, to honor the late actor and fellow Canuck John Candy.

Splash follows a young man (Hanks) who is reunited with a mermaid (Hannah) who saved him from drowning as a boy. He falls in love with her, not knowing who or what she is. 

The film, which also starred Eugene Levy, was nominated for an Academy Award for screenwriting.

The film grossed nearly $70million at the US box office.
