Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande each dig into Rain On Me themed cakes following music video release

Lady Gaga released the highly anticipated music video for her single Rain On Me that featured the voice and presence of fellow pop princess Ariana Grande.

And to celebrate the video’s successful release the 34-year-old Grammy Award winning singer dug into a Rain On Me themed cake gifted her by some of her closest pals.

Earlier in the day, Ariana took to her Instagram Story to show off a cake she received, while enjoying a dance party to the anthemic song with her quarantine pals.

All in the details: Gaga explained on her Instagram Story that the custom ‘rice crispy treat umbrella cake’ actually ‘rained on its own,’ which could not have been more fitting

Gaga explained on her Instagram Story that the custom ‘rice crispy treat umbrella cake’ she received actually ‘rained on its own.’

‘But instead of daggers, it rained sugar diamonds and pearls,’ concluded the Born This Way singer as she posed with the brightly colored confections in her hand.

Gaga kept her light pink hair concealed beneath a bright green turban that coordinated with her crop top and terry cloth sweatpants.

She shared video of her deconstructing the cake and smashing open the ‘sugar diamonds and pearls’ that rained down.

Gaga could not help but take a huge bite out of one of the many pieces that made up the elaborate cake before resuming her hammering.

The Rain On Me cake was covered in chocolate spikes, neon pink icing, and a plethora of Chromatica logos.

Ariana’s cake did not feature as many bells and whistles as Gaga’s, but the 26-year-old songstress appeared more than pleased.

‘The best release day,’ captioned Grande, as she posed with her personal cake.

‘Mom! They can’t see you,’ yelled Grande as her mom Joan comically uttered ‘Exactly!’ from off screen.

Eventually, Ariana was able to coax her mom into the shot as they danced jovially to Rain On Me outdoors.

Grande went the extra mile for her video release day look and recreated the makeup look she wore in the video on herself.

Rain On Me is the second single of Gaga’s current era and will be featured on her new album Chromatica, which drops May 29.

The song’s coinciding music video was a futuristic dance-filled extravaganza that showed Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande leading dance troupes in a dramatic downpour.

Gaga appears first, dressed in pink PVC and fishnet tights, lying on the ground with a knife in her thigh.

She then comes to life and showcases her killer moves in front of a gang of colorfully dressed dancers.

Ariana, 26, appears moments later, in a deep purple latex dress, also dancing with a group of futuristic style backing dancers.

The pop icons appear to be dancing in a post-apocalyptic arena with a cityscape in the background as rain falls around them.

The new track is Gaga’s official second single from her upcoming album, following on from her first song Stupid Love and the star says it is ‘a metaphor for tears’.

Speaking to Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 radio show, she explained: ‘[‘Rain ON Me’] is also a metaphor for tears and for the amount of alcohol I was taking to numb myself.

‘I’d rather be dry but at least I’m alive, rain on me.’ And Gaga, 34, said she and Ariana, 26 – who has battled with a number of tragedies in her life in the past few years, including the bombing at her 2017 Manchester Arena gig and the death of her ex Mac Miller – bonded while working on the song.

Gaga explained: ‘That woman has been through some really tough, really hard life testing stuff, undoubtedly. And her ability to move on…

‘To be with her and hold her and be like, “Anything that you feel chains you, any pop cultural construct that you feel you have to live up to, I’d like you to please forget about it and be yourself.”

However, Gaga admitted it took her some time to open up to friendship with Ariana, because of her own mental health struggles.

She said: ‘When she came into the studio, I was still crying and she was not. And she was like, “You’re going to be OK. Call me; here’s my number”.

‘And she was so persistent. She would try over and over again to be friends with me. And I was too ashamed to hang out with her because I didn’t want to project all of this negativity onto something that was healing and so beautiful.

‘And eventually she called me on my sh*t. She was, “You’re hiding”. And I was … and then this friendship blossomed.’

Chromatica was due for release April 10 but has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now be out May 29.
