The Alienist fans have been delighted by the release of the trailer for season two ahead of its July premiere.

The hit show will see Dakota Fanning, Daniel Bruhl and Luke Evans all reprise their roles in the psychological thriller set in New York City. 

A two-minute trailer for the series, titled Angel of Darkness, was released on Friday with fans quick to revel in the excitement on social media.

One user wrote: ‘Ahhhhhh this looks so good! #TheAlienist.’

The Alienist is a TNT psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped New York City. 

Kreizler, played by Daniel Bruhl, is an alienist, who is a person that studies mental pathologies and the deviant behaviours of those who are alienated from themselves and society.   

Speaking to Glamour earlier this year, leading actress Dakota Fanning revealed the Weinstein scandal had broken during production – making her realise how relevant her character Sarah, who acts as the secretary to the police commissioner, was.

She said: ‘You wish it wasn’t, but it is. We can’t totally change that overnight. At least, hopefully, positive conversation can come from its relevance.’

Dakota also told on Next Generation TV that she is happy with the show because it challenges her.

‘It kind of pushed me in a different way, I had to be very adaptable and also really hyper-focused to know exactly what came before and what was going to come after the scene we were doing, what episode we were in, where the characters were at,’ said the star.
