‘I am vibing with this episode!’ MasterChef viewers praise the cooking show for its Asian Australian representation and for showcasing diverse cultural cuisines

MasterChef: Back to Win viewers are praising this season for showcasing diverse cultural cuisines and Asian Australians.

On Thursday, fans of the show flocked to Twitter to share their pride and support during the instant noodle challenge and the comfort food showdown between Poh Ling Yeow and Jess Liemantara.

‘This is a win for the Asian Australians,’ one Tweeted.

‘I am vibing SO MUCH with this #MasterChefAU episode. What a fantastic display of Asian comfort food,’ one Tweeted.

‘No lie, this is Asian excellence at its finest,’ one wrote, while another added, ‘the Asian representation in this show especially this episode.’

A viewer said: ‘Asian women who look like me, CRUSHING the competition cooking food that I’ve grown up eating. Before Masterchef, you’d only see that on SBS.’

Another fan of the show said that they appreciated the Asian representation so far this season, and added they, ‘Would love to see other cultures be highlighted’ on the show.

One fan shared that they felt an overwhelming sense of pride: ‘it’s been said a million times, but it bears repeating; diversity is beautiful. Keep at it, #MasterChefAU.’ 

‘Asian cooks trying to explain their food to non-Asian people is always entertaining. Loving the Southeast Asian food representation tonight,’ another viewer said, referring to Poh teaching Jock about her Malaysian dish, Nasi Lemak.

Asian Australians have made up one-third of the contestants this season.

Aside from Poh and Jess, this includes Reynold Poernomo, Sarah Tiong, Khanh Ong and Brendan Pang, as well as Amina Elshafei – who is half Korean and half Egyptian – and Ben Ungermann – who is half Indonesian and half Dutch.

MasterChef continues Sunday at 7.30pm on Channel Ten
