CCTV pictures of Hampshire girl, 16, missing since VE Day

Police release new CCTV pictures of 16-year-old girl taken the night before she disappeared on VE Day as search enters 13th day

  • Louise Smith went missing from her home in Havant, Hampshire, on May 8
  • Police arrested a man and woman, both 29, on suspicion of kidnap and they’ve been released on bail
  • As the search enters its 13th day new CCTV footage of Louise has emerged
  • Video shows the 16-year-old visited Tesco before then disappearing

New photographs have emerged of a missing teenager captured just hours before her disappearance.

The CCTV images, released by police as concerns grow for Louise Smith, show the 16-year-old visiting a Tesco on the evening before she vanished.

It comes as police also revealed they will now search a beauty spot’s lake in Havant, Hants, to try to find the teenager.

Louise’s disappearance in the Leigh Park area of Havant also led to two kidnap arrests.

On Wednesday night Hampshire Constabulary released previously unseen CCTV images of Louise at Tesco around 7.30pm on May 7.

New CCTV footage has come to light, showing missing teenager Louise Smith visiting a Tesco store on the evening before her disappearance on May 8

Her last reported sighting was around midday on May 8 – VE Day – on Somborne Drive, which is just yards from the Tesco store.

Search and rescue volunteers have spent days trawling nearby Staunton Country Park as well as nearby Havant Thicket.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said officers will be ‘covering the whole area’ and now the park’s lake ‘will be covered as part of searches’.

The force has urged people from Leigh Park to save any CCTV footage they have from that time period.

Chief Inspector Alex Reading said: ‘If you live in Leigh Park and have CCTV footage from Thursday May 7 and Friday May 8, please save it if this is possible, and do not delete it.

‘Officers are systematically working their way through the area making enquiries so would be keen to collect it from you when they reach you.

‘Alternatively, you can make contact us directly and we can arrange for an officer to attend to collect it and view it.

‘We are not expecting the public to view it all themselves to see if there is anything significant – you can leave that part to us. We are keen to secure as much CCTV footage as possible as part of enquiries.’

He added: ‘I would once again like to take this opportunity to appeal directly to Louise to make contact with us. Louise, please call us and let us know you are OK. We just want to know that you are safe.

‘If you feel you cannot call us, then please call a friend or a loved one – we need to know that you are OK.’

Earlier this week Hampshire Constabulary said mobile phone footage of VE Day celebrations filmed in Havant could be key to their investigation.

The force urged anyone with footage of celebrations on their doorsteps or in their neighbourhood in Havant to come forward in case it gives them clues about Louise’s disappearance.

Louise is white, around 5ft 2ins tall, of slim build and has straight, black, shoulder-length hair.

She was last seen wearing black jeans, a black and white striped T-shirt, black trainers and a black coat with a fur hood.

However, police said they ‘can’t be certain’ that she might have been wearing this the day she disappeared.
